Scorcher Day - Spectacular Game

With temperatures skyrocketing into the upper 90's, it was tough to play their hardest and that did not stop them! The first game of the Fall Ball Season was played at Taft High School in Chicago. The Chiefs HS Girls only had 8 members in playing condition and borrowed 2 players for a 10-on-10 match. There were frequent water breaks, a longer half, and a triumphant 44 to 10 victory! The video for the game can be found with this link. My apologies for the shaking 1st half, the later part is better.

Thank you to our water boys and girl! The team would have not made it through the heat without you!!

The team communicated well, yes Cat was loud but her words helped pull them together. They played incredibly fluid, passing the ball and calling out to each other, letting teammates know you are there to support them.

Coach Eric has the following shout outs:

Kennedy - (1st game ever) You ran with the ball a few times and did exactly what you were supposed to do! You only lost the ball once to an unlucky hit.

Tiffany - (1st game ever) Are you sure you have never played before? It looked like you knew what you were doing out there. Especially the tackle (Best Tackle of the GAME) but even when you were in the scrum and when you rucked, you did well!

Esme - Nice running with the ball and rucking. Nice score (even though your dad missed it) as well. You played the field like a forward should and you were there for support!

Izzy - You are showing us what a leader in the back field should be. You ran hard and even better you score on them when they made a mistake and brought the ball down instead of tackling them!

Syd - (Bouncing Syd has to stay) You're not a forward anymore. You did well as a back and scrum half! You have the ability to play smart on the field which is huge for a back but someone with a forwards power. Nice (almost) score as you busted through the defense. Prop, forward, or full back?

Lexi - (our injured friend) We missed you and hope you are better very soon!

GAME MVP's:

Dora - (our Palatine friend!) Yes you had the most injuries on the field but you were everywhere on the field! Some amazing plays as scrum half and you supported everyone! You fought through the pain to make things happen for the team. The team cannot thank you enough for joining and being there to make them a success!!

Luana - (our Brazilian friend!) You did what was asked, created havoc for the other team! Your mastery of the game rules allowed you to confuse and over power the other team. Maybe the rest of the team will study up on the rules now that they see the impact it has on the game. You are a team roll model and we are all so glad you moved to the States! It was a double win for you, your team hear and in Brazil, Congratulations!!

Cat - (our Team Captain for the game) You may have been one of the better team captains I have seen in a while! You even educated the other team, glad the sir allowed it.You kept everyone motivated in horrible weather. Even one of the Rugby Illinois officials said I could not have chosen a better captain, and other comments as well. You know and used the capabilities of your team mates to their full advantage, expanded your knowledge of the game, showing true leadership. Your kicking has improved nicely!
